With the new technological advancements, the world is at our fingertips. Traditional ways are no longer our only option. Do you need a dress urgently? Order it online. Urgent grocery needs? They can be delivered to your doorsteps within minutes. So why would sellers be limited to the physical market when it’s no longer necessary?

Now, online stores are not only for big corporations. Whether you are a small business or an independent seller, eCommerce allows you to expand your reach and sell products effortlessly online.

Amazon is one such eCommerce site that has been able to dominate the online storefronts for years, making it a go-to place for sellers looking to reach millions of customers. With over 300 million users, Amazon provides exposure to brands and businesses like no other e-commerce site. Unlike other eCommerce websites, Amazon proves to be a convenience not only for its customers but also its sellers with marketing, delivery, fulfilment, and trust with the customers, allowing its sellers to focus on growing their business. Now is the time for sellers to set up stores and start listing products on Amazon to reach customers from all around the world.

What is a product listing on Amazon?

While shopping online, one thing that puts the customers at ease is the information provided on the products, and a product listing is just that. An Amazon product listing is a dedicated page for customers to view information about a product. Each product on Amazon has its identification code, known as the ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number), to help customers differentiate between them. If an item is new to Amazon, sellers can add the product information to create a new listing or join a current listing.

Step-by-Step Guide to Listing Products on Amazon

Whether you are launching a new product or adding an existing one, following the right steps ensures a smooth listing process. Here’s a guide to setting up your store and listing products on Amazon efficiently

Step 1-  Set Up Your Amzon Seller Account

Before you start selling on Amazon, you need to set up your seller account through Amazon Seller Central. But the first step in setting up your account is to choose the right plan for your business. Amazon offers two types of plans: Individual and Professional plans. Individual plans are for those who sell fewer than 40 items per month with no subscription required and are more suitable for small businesses. Fulfilled by Merchant (FBM) is more suitable if sellers are looking to scale, offering bulk listing options, access to advertising tools, and a fixed monthly subscription. Once you select a plan, complete the registration by providing the essential details. You’ll need to enter your business information, including your legal name, contact details, and address. Amazon also requires tax information such as GST for India and VAT for Europe to ensure compliance with the regional regulations. Next, add your bank account details to receive payments, ensuring it supports international transactions. Lastly, to confirm your identity, you might be required to submit proof like a passport and even attend a video call from Amazon.

Step 2-Understanding Categories and Preparing Product Information

Before listing a product on Amazon, it’s crucial to select the correct category and subcategory, as this directly impacts visibility and search ranking. Amazon organizes products into specific sections, and choosing an inaccurate category can result in poor discoverability. Additionally, some categories such as health, beauty, groceries, and electronics require special approval, meaning sellers must submit some compliance documents and certifications to meet Amazon’s strict quality standards, and not following these guidelines may result in suspension of the account. Once the right category is determined, the next step is gathering all essential product information and assets. A compelling product listing includes clear and keyword optimization, detailed bulletin points and engaging description, and competitive pricing. High-quality images are equally important for Amazon to enhance customer trust. Additionally, conducting keyword research using tools like Helium 100 or Jungle Scout can help identify relevant search terms to improve visibility.

Step 3- Create your product listing

To create your product listing, first log in to your Amazon seller central and navigate to the “ Add a Product” section. If the product you’re selling already exists on Amazon, simply search for it using its name, brand, or UPC and match it to an existing ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number). This allows you to add your offer to existing listings without needing to create a new one. However, if your product is unique and does not exist on Amazon, you’ll need to create a new listing by selecting the appropriate category and subcategory. This process involves filling essential details such as :

  • Brand Name – Enter the brand of the product, ensuring it matches what’s on the packaging.
  • Product Title – Craft a clear, keyword-rich title that accurately describes the product, keeping within Amazon’s character limits and best practices for search optimization
  • Category and Subcategory –  Choose an appropriate category and subcategory for your product to enhance visibility.
  • Bullet points – The key benefits, features, and specifications of the product should be mentioned in the form of precise bullet points. Highlight what makes the product stand out and why customers should choose it over competitors.
  • Product descriptions – It involves being thorough with a detailed description of the product, indicating its features, usage, and benefits so that customers will understand them in detail. Important keywords must be infused naturally for better SEO.
  • Competitive Pricing – Set a competitive price based on market research considerations such as product costs, competitor pricing models, and Amazon fees. Use Amazon pricing tools for regular tracking of market fluctuations in price and update your prices accordingly. Once all the required information is entered, check to see if your listing is accurate and complete. A well-created listing with clear, keyword-optimized content, high-quality images, and competitive pricing can significantly improve your product’s visibility and chances of success on Amazon.

Step 4-Inventory Management and Publishing Your Listing

Once your product listing is ready, decide how you want to handle fulfillment. Amazon provides two options for fulfillment: Fulfilled by Merchant (FBM), in which sellers handle shipping themself, or sellers can let Amazon manage storage, shipping, and customer service with Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA). FMA helps to increase the chances of making your product Prime-eligible, and with Amazon also handling marketing, although it comes with additional storage fees. Setting the proper pricing plan is essential for success in addition to fulfillment. To remain competitive while preserving healthy profit margins, investigate rival prices and make use of dynamic pricing solutions. To maximize pricing, take into account elements including demand patterns, Amazon fees, and the Buy Box algorithm. Make sure to check your inventory levels to prevent overstocking or stockouts. Before publishing, carefully review listings for any errors in pricing, images, and description. Avoid common mistakes like keyword stuffing or false claims. Once everything looks perfect, publish your listing and wait for Amazon’s approval to go live

Step 5 – Monitoring & Updating Your Listings

Keep an eye on your listings by utilizing Amazon Seller Central to monitor sales performance and customer reviews. Evaluate the data to enhance your pricing, keywords, and descriptions, guaranteeing ongoing enhancements for improved visibility and conversion rates.

Conclusion

Selling on Amazon provides both businesses and individual sellers the chance to connect with a vast audience effortlessly. By adhering to the appropriate procedures—from creating an account to enhancing product listings and overseeing fulfillment—you can boost sales and expand your brand. Regularly evaluate and refresh your listings to remain competitive and secure enduring success in the fast-changing e-commerce environment.
