How to List Products on Flipkart

Listing your products on Flipkart is like setting up shop in the busiest marketplace- except this one is open 24/7 to millions of customers across India. Flipkart, one of India’s largest and most trusted e-commerce platforms, has revolutionized online shopping with its variety of products and services. With millions of active users, it’s an exceptional opportunity for businesses and vendors to reach a massive customers across the country. Selling on Flipkart provides vendors with the platform to not only expand their market but also increase sales significantly by accessing new customers through an online base. Flipkart helps to open doors for sellers by increasing product visibility and attracting customers through search optimization and marketing. So, here’s a guide to list your products efficiently on Flipkart to help you expand your businesses with the platform’s tools.

Types of Product Listing on Flipkart

Flipkart primarily offers two methods of listing products: Single Listing and Bulk Listing. Single Listing is ideal for sellers who want to add individual products to their catalog, making it suitable for small businesses, new sellers, and businesses with limited inventory.  This method ensures precise product descriptions, optimized images, and better customization. Bulk Listing is designed for sellers with a large number of products to upload at once or sellers managing large inventory. This method allows sellers to upload multiple products at once, using Flipkart’s pre-formatted Excel template. This method saves time and effort, making it more efficient for wholesalers, large retailers, and brands with extensive product ranges. Choosing the right listing method depends on the scale of your business- while listings offer more control and attention to detail, bulk listings enable faster product uploads for businesses.

Step-by-Step Guide to Single Listing on Flipkart

Step 1: Setting Up Your Account And Accessing The Seller Dashboard

Before listing a product, you need to set up your Flipkart Seller Account through the Flipkart Seller Hub and register using your business details, GSTIN, Bank Account Information, and pick-up address. Once the account is verified by Flipkart, sellers can start listing their products. To begin the listing process, log in to Flipkart’s Seller Hub using your registered credentials. Once logged in, navigate to the “Listing” section on the dashboard and click on “Add New Listing”. This will take you to the product listing interface, where you can choose how you want to upload your products.

 Step 2: Choosing the Listing Type

Once you click on “Add New Listing”, Flipkart offers you two listing options- Single Listing and Bulk Listing. Since we are focusing on single listing to add one product, select “Single Listing”. After choosing this option, you’ll be directed to the next page, where you start filling in the product details. Flipkart’s interface guides you through each step, ensuring you provide all the necessary information for your product, from category selection to product images and description

Step 3: Selecting the Product Category 

Choosing the right category for your product is essential to make sure your product reaches the targeted customers. On the category selection page, you can pick a category in three ways: Top Suggested Categories, where Flipkart suggests popular categories based on your product; by typing the product name in the Search Bar to find matching categories; or by Manual Browsing through the category index. For instance, if you are selling a cotton saree, typing saree in the search bar will help you select the appropriate category, such as Women’s Clothing > Ethnic Wear > Sarees.

Step 4: Providing Brand Information

For branded products, you must upload one of the following documents for verification: Brand Authorization Letter, Invoice Copy, or Trademark Certificate. This ensures brand authenticity and prevents counterfeit listings. However, for non-branded products, no approval is required, and you can go ahead with listing immediately.


Step 5: Entering Product Details

Sellers should provide accurate and detailed information of the product to improve your product’s visibility. Uploading high-resolution images following Flipkart’s guidelines to ensure clarity and trust with customers. Sellers should set competitive pricing, stock availability, and shipping details. Writing a clear, keyword-rich product description that highlights key features of your product. Adding search-optimized keywords in the additional attributes section helps to improve discoverability. If available, sellers should include a video link to showcase the product and boost customer engagement. If your product has different options, you can add Size Variants (different sizes) or Color Variants (different colors) to the listing. This allows customers to choose from various options for the same product.


Step 6: Final Review & Submission for Approval

Before submitting, you are recommended to check your listing using the preview option. Ensure the title, description, and images are all accurate, and verify the pricing and shipping details. Once reviewed, submit the listing for Quality Check (QC) approval.

Bulk listing is ideal for sellers managing a large inventory. 

  • To add a Bulk Listing, go to the “Add New Listing” option and select “Add Bulk Listing.”
  • Select the right category and subcategory of your products to ensure discoverability.
  • Download the Excel template. Flipkart provides a standardised Excel file for product entry for efficiency and convenience.
  • Enter the product details like the SKU ID, brand, price, description, quantity, and shipping information.
  • Lastly, add high-quality images, input SKU numbers, and apply the Image Uploader feature.
  • Once the template is completed, submit it for Quality Check (QC) approval.

Common Challenges and How to Overcome Them

While listing products on Flipkart is easy, there are some common challenges that sellers might face. Here’s how to tackle them effectively:

  • Listing Rejection – Ensure all the details you have given are accurate and the required documents (like GSTIN) are uploaded correctly. 
  • Low Visibility– Optimize your product with relevant keywords, high-quality images, and detailed descriptions to improve search ranking. 
  • Image Upload Issues– Make sure to follow Flipkart’s image quality guidelines, like correct resolution, background, and format, to avoid errors.
